Philosophy and Approach
I believe that we all, at one time or another, come up against life circumstances that destabilize us. Needing support or just a safe, private place to explore our choices, is a sign of strength, not weakness. Life transitions, such as divorce, job loss, loss of a loved one, or relocating can be very stressful. A traumatic experience, whether recent or long ago, can be too painful or frightening to process by one’s self. Coming to terms with childhood sexual abuse can feel overwhelming if we attempt to “go it alone.” As a counselor in Sweet Home, Oregon, I would be privileged to be your support as you heal and recover.
In a nurturing, affirming, confidential atmosphere, our problems become more manageable, and we can make choices that are life-enhancing. We all need support and encouragement at times.
My approach to therapy uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a Person-Centered mind-set, that recognizes you as the expert on your life. You can become amazingly creative in finding solutions for your own life struggles when you are not overwhelmed.
I am a faith-based person, and will be happy to take a Christian perspective in counseling with you if you so choose. However, my training and experience has equipped me to work effectively with people of all beliefs, or none at all. I will honor your wishes in this very sensitive area of personal choice.
I embrace and abide by the Code of Ethics that has been approved by the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists.
